The Composition of Liver Vitamin a Ester and the Synthesis of Vitamin a Ester by Liver Microsomes.

چکیده
The liver is capable of storing large quantities of vitamin A in ester form (1). However, some uncertainty still exists concerning both the composition of liver vit, amin A ester and the ability of the liver to esterify vitamin A. Vitamin A palmitate was isolated from fish liver many years ago (a), and recently it has been suggested that this ester is the principal if not exclusive (3, 4) ester of vitamin A stored by the liver. Previous attempts to demonstrate the esterification of vitamin A by preparations of liver tissue have not been successful (5, 6). However, the isolated, perfused liver is able to synthesize vitamin A ester (7, 8). In the present report the fatty acid composition of vitamin A ester isolated from the liver of the calf, sheep, rabbit, man, rat, frog, trout, and cat is described, and evidence is provided that the synthesis of vitamin A ester in the liver occurs in the microsomes.

Retinol esterification by rat liver microsomes. Evidence for a fatty acyl coenzyme A: retinol acyltransferase.
To explore the nature of retinyl ester synthesis by liver microsomes, membranes prepared from rat or cat liver were incubated under various conditions with [3H] retinol dispersed in dimethyl sulfoxide. When [3H]retinol, buffer, and microsomes were incubated together (basal conditions), some [3H]retinol esterification was consistently observed. However, the rate of esterification could be increa...

We recently reported the presence of a neutral, bile salt-independent retinyl ester hydrolase (REH) activity in rat liver microsomes and showed that it was distinct from the previously studied bile salt-dependent REH and from nonspecific carboxylesterases (Harrison, E. H., and M. Z. Gad. 1989. J. Biol. Chem. 264: 17142-17147). We have now further characterized the hydrolysis of retinyl esters b...
متن کاملThe Effects of Vitamin E on the Liver Integrity of Mice Fed with Acrylamide Diet
Background and Objectives: Acrylamide is a monomer which is formed in foodstuffs containing carbohydrates altered to asparagine during thermal processing. Vitamin E is a component in human diet considered as the most effective lipid-soluble antioxidant found in the biological system. It prevents initiation of oxidative tissue...
متن کاملFatty Acid Composition of Vitamin a Esters in Fish Liver Oils.
In order to obtain some information about vitamin A absorption and storage in fish, fatty acid composition of vitamin A esters in fish liver was studied as vitamin A is stored in the liver more concentratedly than any other organs of fish. As early as 1934 Hamano (1-3) showed that a crystalline substance prepared by addition of maleic anhydride to the liver oil of ishinagi (Stereolepis ischinag...
متن کاملComparison of the Effects of Aerobic Training with Vitamin C and Estradiol on Markers of the Liver among Ovariectomized and Normal Rats
Introduction: Postmenopausal estrogen deficiency, disturbance of the antioxidant defense system, and free radical production lead to oxidative stress. This results in metabolic disturbances affecting the liver. Therefore, it is important to properly evaluate the benefits of antioxidant administration and exercise on oxidative stress in the liver. The main purpose of this study was to compare th...
